Preparing Kids for a Hostile Academic World

2020-02-03 04:48:51/Jenni & Jody

Most homeschool parents sense that our nation is suffering an identity crisis. A great many of our citizens (especially young adults) are rejecting the free market capital system that helped to build our country in favor of socialism. According to today’s guest “54% of college-aged kids prefer socialism to free market capitalism without even really being able to define socialism.”

Higher education institutions seem to be the epicenter of the socialist, anti-patriotic, secular humanist crusade that is molding the worldview of our young adults. But here’s the rub -- we want our kids to be a voice in their generation. We need our kids to rise up and turn the tide, but in order to groom that kind of leadership in our youth, higher education is often a must. So what do we do?

“Are we giving them arguments that they can refute or arguments that they can put up against what they're going to hear in college? .”

Dr. Duke Pesta

As homeschoolers, we have sacrificed and toiled and protected our children throughout their childhood. What good is any of it if we send them into a crucible of toxic philosophy to be trained by the very thinkers who are driven to dismantle all we have taught them?

In this episode, our guest gives homeschool parents insights into what is happening in higher education and what we can do in the face of it.

Dr. Duke Pesta is the Director of FreedomProject Academy, host of the Dr. Duke Show podcast, and a tenured professor of English at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. He received his M.A. in Renaissance literature from John Carroll University and his PhD in Shakespeare and Renaissance literature from Purdue University. He has taught at major research institutions and small liberal arts colleges on a wide variety of subjects at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Dr. Pesta is one of America’s foremost authorities on the dangers of Common Core and the federal takeover of education, having delivered over 700 hundred talks in 46 states. He hosts his own weekly program about education—The Dr. Duke Show—which covers educational issues from preschool through graduate school.

He is a frequent interlocutor with Stefan Molyneux at Freedomain Radio and is a regular guest on a number of nationally-syndicated radio programs. He also hosts a weekly segment for The College Fix, a top-twenty-five conservative site dedicated to reporting on campus abuses. His collective videos and presentations top more than ten million views online, and much of his work is available at FreedomProject.com and FPEUSA.org.
